![]() Kauai is Hawaii’s most popular island for destination weddings. The rich verdant flora and fauna, striking waterfalls and beautiful beaches give you a choice of the background for your destination wedding. At VIP TRAVEL, we are able to assist you with all the details. Here are some of the places that are must sees on Kauai. The Fern Grotto, which once only Hawaiian Royalty was allowed to enjoy, is only accessible by boat. You can kayak there; however, the dock is reserved for the tour boats only. The beauty of the grotto is enhanced with the cooling mists of the waterfall that encourages the outrageous growth of the ferns in and around the cave. When you arrive at the grotto, you will be serenaded by local Hawaiian musicians playing traditional Hawaiian songs. ![]() Wailua Falls cascades in two streams 80 feet into a cool pool below. Legend says that early Hawaiians jumped from the falls to prove their manhood. If you can remember the old tv show, Fantasy Island, these falls were used in the opening credits. Wailua River and the Sleeping Giant, is a landmark accessible if you like hiking. If you use your imagination, you can make out what looks like a human form lying on his back. This quirk of nature has inspired many legends and myths. One legend says that he was tricked into eating rocks and fell asleep on full stomach and never woke up again. Another legend has him nodding off for eternity after celebrating a bit too hard. Either way, the view from his stomach is awesome. It’s well worth the two mile, each way, hike. Be sure to take bottled water with you. Ludgate Beach Park and snorkeling lagoon – This popular beach is a perfect choice for your destination wedding. It is also a great choice to take the family and let the kids experience the colorful and friendly fish. The lagoon is completely protected from the open ocean by a lava rock wall. Inside the lagoon, the water is calm and clear. The white sandy beach, warm, clear water and colorful fish make an unbeatable combination. ![]() Kamokila Village contains relicas of traditional Hawaiian architecture and construction. This is where the movie “Outbreak” was filmed and visitors can still see the set. A favorite of kayakers is the Huleia River. You can leave from Nawiliwili and kayak up the river. There is a National Wildlife refuge on this river. It was also used in the opening scenes of “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” Alekoko – the Menehune Fish pond - Legends say that the large pond was built over 1000 years ago by hundreds of very small Hawaiian people called the “Menehune”. The pond was constructed with a stone wall 900 ft long and 5 ft high. Legend says that it was built in one night. Supposedly they managed this astounding feat by lining up in a double row extending 25 miles and passing stones hand to hand. Menehune legends are very popular in the Hawaiian culture. It is thought that the word may have been derived from the Tahatian word, Manahune, which means commoner. So the legends changed it from being people of small status to people of small stature. Poipu Beach Park is one of the safest and most popular beaches on Kauai. Even the endangered Hawaiian Monk Seals love this beach. These huge creatures usually avoid humans and especially crowds, but one momma seal has delivered and weaned her pups on this beach for several years now. The crystal clear water is great for swimming, snorkeling, surfing and just playing in. The sandy beaches are warm and welcoming.
